Praful Chavda has been front and center with some of Microsoft’s most pioneering consumer products over the last decade.
That’s why it was no small news when he relocated from Redmond to Microsoft Silicon Valley towards the end of last year. But the excitement wasn’t just about the arrival of Praful himself, it was about what he and his team came to do.
Growing up in Mumbai, Praful fused his engineering background with the savvy of an MBA and a natural talent for consumer products. During his years in Redmond, he worked across a range of cutting-edge consumer-facing projects including the early years of Zune Mobile (where some of the Metro concepts were incubated) to then taking a leadership role on the Windows Phone team. He went on to drive the Zune Marketplace experience for apps and games and customization policy of Windows Phone followed by a GPM role for Consumer and Partner Experiences for Windows Phone Services.
Wanting to be sure that he continued to make a big impact on the consumer side of the industry, Praful found his golden opportunity at Microsoft Silicon Valley. He’s now the Principal Product Unit Manager in the new Consumer Ad Experiences team.
As Praful explains, “We are innovating the digital advertisement experience by making it more relevant, more interactive, more contextual to the platform capabilities, and ultimately more valuable to the end users. We want to drive meaningful and immersive consumer engagement across devices, where ads are an integrated and seamless part of the user experience, rather than an interruption.”
He continues, “My sister team here at Microsoft provides the ads platform and my team creates the user experience in which ads are displayed. We want to ensure a meaningful, coherent monetization user experience across Microsoft products such as Windows 8, Xbox, Outlook.com, Skype and more”
The Consumer Ad Experiences team at Microsoft Silicon Valley is part of a larger push by Microsoft to focus on evolving consumer ads experiences and be sure to align them across different products and devices.
Praful says, “It is an exciting time as we have a new charter and are investing and looking for bright talent. We have the opportunity to do some groundbreaking innovation. It’s a new page at MSV with a focus on very consumer-centric work.”
He concludes, “If you are interested in providing the most exciting and new ad experiences across Windows 8, Xbox, Skype, Outlook.com and other Microsoft products, we’d love to speak with you.”
